So, the weather is turning cold (or maybe not considering this is the South), and you are looking for some fun things to entertain yourself and possibly some Holiday guests. I’ve scoured the internet for some unusual and interesting things to do in Metro Atlanta and North Georgia!
- Get a thrill riding a pig! No seriously, Priscilla the Pink Pig has been a Holiday tradition for over 60 years. Located in Buckhead, atop Lenox Mall, Macy’s Pink Pig train is a delightful and whimsical way to support Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
- Drive a bumper car while tossing a whiffle ball to your teammates while playing at WhirlyBall Atlanta. While you can’t enjoy this activity with the little ones (kids have to be at least 11 years old and 52” tall), it’s a great endeavor to pass the time with bored tweens and teenagers!
- Exercise those wobbly knees and weak ankles and attempt to not fall on your bum while ice-skating! Both Centennial Olympic Park and Marietta Square have outdoor ice-skating through January.
- Return to your childhood and explore the wonder of the story, “T’was the Night before Christmas” while riding through the North GA Mountains on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway Christmas Express. Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Blue Ridge provides the perfect backdrop to this magical trip.
- Amaze yourself on one of those cold weekends by taking in the beauty of Cloudland Canyon State Park as its many waterfalls are frozen in time. You’ll be stunned by the spectacular displays of water caught in their winter glory!
- Talk about eye candy! Take in the stunning light display at Atlanta Botanical Gardens. 2017 brings us exhibits such as the Walk of the Flames, Tunnel of Light, and Glittering Galaxy.
- Get wet! Yep, you heard me correctly - what better way to relax than to take the whole family to an indoor swim park when it’s freezing outside! South Cobb Aquatic Center - Cobb County Government, Bethesda Park Aquatic Center, and Bogan Park Aquatic Center all offer fun-filled ways to splash each other while staying nice and toasty warm.
- Drive your kids crazy at Tiny Towne! This unique concept allows kids of all ages to drive their very own car around an indoor town while learning about car safety and driving rules. They will experience road signs, traffic signals, and other drivers as they make their way through the tiny streets.
- Located in Gainesville, INK (Interactive Neighborhood for Kids), provides an amazing building filled with interactive exhibits that allow young children to explore and role-play. Included are Grandpappy Airlines, a medical clinic, dentist office, bank, and grocery store to name a few.
- Snow Mountain within Stone Mountain Park has been one of my family’s favorites for years and no winter would be complete without making a visit to. Ride a tube by yourself, or with a whole group down slippery hills while holding on for dear life! After you dust yourself off, experience the rest of Stone Mountain Christmas where you can take in a 4D movie, sing carols on the Christmas train, and stay for the nightly lighted parade!
